Consent, boundaries & healthy relationships

By Youth Engagement OfficerMay 18, 20265 min read
Consent isn't a one-time checkbox — it's an ongoing conversation. It means checking in, respecting a 'no' (or a 'not right now'), and never assuming.
Healthy relationships, whether with friends, family, or partners, are built on a few simple things: honesty, respect for each other's boundaries, and space to be yourselves.
It's okay to set a boundary even if it feels uncomfortable at first. 'I'm not ready to talk about that yet' or 'I need some space' are complete sentences — you don't owe anyone an explanation beyond what you're comfortable sharing.
If a relationship — romantic or otherwise — consistently makes you feel small, unsafe, or pressured, that's worth talking through with someone you trust, or with us, confidentially.
